Online Florida Drivers License Permit Exam Details
The Permit Exam test site is secured by 128 bit SSL encryption which is the highest standards for security on the Internet. Your personal information is confidential and will only be reported to the DHSMV for the purposes of obtaining your Driver's License.
You must be under the age of 18 years old to be eligible to take the DMV Permit test online. If you are 18 years of age or older you are required to take the written permit exam at your local DMV office or with an authorized Third Party Administrator that offers proctored exams.
You will be taking an exam that is broken down into two sections.
- Road Signs Test. You will have a total of 20 Questions. You must get 15 Questions or better correct to pass (75%).
- Rules Test. You will have a total of 20 Questions. You must get 15 Questions or better correct to pass (75%).
What if you Fail - What Happens?
If you fail the DMV test online you can retake the test two (2) times. You will be charged $10 for every time you re-take either test. You will only be charged the $10 for retesting the sections you failed.
You will be given a total of three (3) chances to pass the DMV Permit/Class E Knowledge test. If you fail the test three (3) times you will be required to take the DMV Permit/Class E Knowledge test at your local DMV office.
Test results are electronically reported to the Division of Driver Licenses and will be recorded in the applicant's driver record.
Information, Rules and Disclosures Regarding the Drivers License Permit Exam
Student Identification, Age Requirements and Parent Proctoring of Exam
You must have a valid Social Security Number to register for the DMV Permit/Class E Knowledge test. The Social Security Number must be your number and if this number does not match identification documents your test results will not be accepted by the DMV office. If you do not have a Social Security Number you will have the option to enter one of the following during registration: Alien Registration number (or), Admissions number (or) Florida ID card number.
F.S. Section 322.08(2)(a) requires each applicant to provide his or her Social Security Number for the purpose of applicant identification and verification with the federal Social Security Administration and as a requirement of the Federal Real ID Act of 2005.
A parent or legal guardian must observe and attest that you have taken the DMV Permit/Class E Knowledge test without any assistance. Test results will not be accepted unless a parent or legal guardian of the applicant personally observes the applicant taking the test without any assistance from any person or reference materials, and attests to this fact under oath at the time the license may be issued.
If you are under 18 years of age at the time you take the DMV Permit/Class E Knowledge test but have turned 18 when you attempt to get your license at the DMV office, you will be required to bring the Parent Proctoring form with you. The Parent Proctoring form must be signed and notarized before your 18th birthday.
Driver Permit/Class E Knowledge Test Disclaimer Messages
American Safety Institute (ASI) is the Provider issuing the DMV Permit/Class E Knowledge test online and is referred to as the Third Party Administrator. When you Select the Registration Button above, you will be transferred to the ASI Testing Site after registering through our National Traffic Safety Institute (NTSI) portal.
The Department is the Drivers License or DMV office and is referred to as the Department.
Additional Legal Information
It is unlawful for any person to use a false or fictitious name in any application for a driver's license or identification card or knowingly to make a false statement, knowingly conceal a material fact, or otherwise commit a fraud in any such application.
Any student or parent or guardian giving false statements regarding the student's testing efforts is committing fraud and subject to license cancellation for a period of one year in accordance with section 322.22 and 322.27(1)(d) F.S.
Prior to the issuance of a learner's license, the parent or guardian is required to certify to the Department that the student was monitored during the online examination and that the parent or guardian was aware of and allowed the student to take the examination online.
All students are subject to random selection for retesting at the Driver License or Tax Collector office prior to the issuance of any license. Failure to pass the random retest will require the student to pass the Knowledge Test in a Driver License or Tax Collector office under the guidance of an Official Proctor prior to license issuance.
The parent or guardian is required to provide a valid license number at the beginning of the online examination.
Testing students are required to answer personal security questions before and during the online examination.
Test material (examination questions and answers) is made confidential by s.119.07(3)(a), Florida Statutes, and is the property of the Florida Division of Driver Licenses. No one may copy or distribute any part of the test material without the express written consent of the Department of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles, Division of Driver Licenses.
Applicant Requirements at the Local DMV
The driver license examiner at the DMV will be verifying the Social Security Number, Alien Registration number, Florida ID card, or Admissions number and the Name and Address of the applicant. It the Students responsibility to enter it correctly during the Permit Exam registration; once the Permit Exam test has been taken it can't be changed.
The payment of Drivers License Online Exam fee does not affect the payment of other fees to the Florida Division of Driver Licenses (DDL) at the time the applicant applies for their Learns Permit at the DMV. You will still be required to pay the DMV an additional fee for your vision test, hearing test, and your photograph for your actual license. (You pay the additional fee when you arrive at your local DMV).
