Frequently Asked Questions about Online Traffic School

Defensive Driving School Questions

Most States have concluded that education offers the best method to reduce future traffic tickets and that an educated driver is a safer driver.  To meet that educational commitment, many states and local municipal courts allow people who are ticketed for minor traffic offenses to:

  1. Pay the fine at the County Clerk of the Courts Offices.
  2. Plead "no contest" (adjudication is withheld) to the ticket, and
  3. Elect to attend a defensive driver improvement course, commonly referred to as traffic school.

Traffic school is a program of instruction on driving safety and traffic laws offered by a state authorized school like Nations Traffic School and ASI.  Depending on the state, the course can be 4 hours, 6 hours or 8 hours in length.  The defensive driving course curriculums are set by each state and are designed to refresh your knowledge of defensive driving techniques, safety, updated traffic laws, dangers of distracted driving, and DUI laws.

Most states require you to attend a defensive driving course with an instructor in a classroom, which is still be best method of education.  A few states may now permit you to complete the driving course through an online self-study course.  After successfully completing traffic school, the student is responsible for submitting the completion certificate to the County Clerk of the Courts Office or insurance carrier for insurance reduction.

Traffic school can also be assigned by a judge if you decided to attend court and are adjudicated "guilty" or adjudication is "withheld".  When adjudication is "withheld", the citation is not dismissed, but "no points" will be assessed on the condition that you complete your court ordered requirement in the time frame assigned by the judge.

Court ordered classes tend to be the Advanced 8 hour class, the 8 hour aggressive driving course or 12 hour advanced driving course.  When court ordered, traffic school is no longer an option, but is now a requirement to maintain your driving privileges and typically requires attendance in a classroom.

Online Traffic School classes are designed for the person who does not have a lot of time or prefers to take a course without attending a formal classroom.  The courses are broken up into sections and you can log off and then log back in at a later time.  The computer records the section(s) you have completed.  You can log on and off as many times as you wish until you complete the class.  You can also do the entire course in one sitting.....it is up to you.

The classes are designed for four (4), six (6), eight (8), or 12 hours depending on which course you need.  Online classs are designed to take the same equivalent time as a traditional in-class traffic school course, but you work at your own pace and from any computer connected to the internet.

Internet Classes require you to use your Credit Card or Debit Card.  After you fill out the registration form, you will be linked to a secure credit card processing page.  The payment site is encrypted to make your online purchase safe.

Registration for an Internet Class is simple.  You click on the appropriate button for the class you need to take and you will be taken to the ASI Virtual Test Center's registration page.  Just complete all the appropriate fields and you can get started immediately.  You may also call the ASI Support Center at 800-800-7121 during normal business hours, and register right away over the phone.

Depending on your State's requirement, when you take one of our online classes, your Certificate is either e-mailed to you or filed automatically with the DMV at no cost to you.  Some states require an "original" signature on a certificate; those are sent to you by USPS first class mail.  After passing the final exam, your Certificate is processed and distributed by the following business day.  If sent to you, the Certificate is in a .PDF file; that allows you to print it from any computer.  Certificates are processed 2 times a day, Monday through Friday (excluding Holidays).

If you do not have a printer and attend an Internet Class, you can elect to have your Certificate sent by regular USPS mail at registration time.  If you need it rushed, call the ASI Support Center at 800-800-7121 during normal business hours after you have completed your traffic school class.  A $10.00 Expediting Fee may be charged if you need your Certificate processed immediately after passing your final exam.)

Our courses are easy to use.  You log onto our virtual classroom web site and Register online via your normal Internet connection.  Our online classes are compatible with all desktop, laptops or tablet devices.  Nothing special is required or needs to be downloaded.  (See PC and Browser requirements.)

You choose your own password and username when you register for an online course.  After registering, you will gain immediate access to the online classroom portal.

Our courses are compatible with all mobile devices.  Although you can register for a class using your cell phone, it is never advisable to use a smart phone to attend an online defensive driver course.

You can take our Internet Courses from home, work, a friend or family members house -- ANYTIME -- 24/7.  Whatever computer you use, you just need Internet access that is not blocked by your Network Administrator.  You can start on your own computer and finish on another.

If you have already enrolled, you have a username and password, and can Login as often as you need to complete your course.  Navigate back to the page of the class you are taking and click on the Blue Returning Student Button.  If you have forgotten or lost your username or password, call our ASI Support Center at 800-800-7121.

Internet users sometimes are knocked off line.  This may result from a lost Internet connection, another call interrupting your connection if you are on a single line with call waiting, or simply because your computer crashes.  Remember, as you complete each section of the course, your progress is logged.  Completion of chapter one, for example, cannot be lost if your answers are submitted to the system and graded.  Being knocked off line at any point will not delete any previously completed chapters.  When your Internet connection is re-established, simply Log back on our site and you will be returned the point you last completed.

The final exam consists of multiple choice and True / False answers.  The questions all come from the course and there is no time limit to take the exam.

In the unlikely event you fail, you may take the final exam up to a total of two (2) or three (3) times, depending on your States' requirements.  If you fail the final exam after the 2nd or 3rd attempt, call the ASI Support Center at 800-800-7121 for assistance.

The security questions are used to ensure that the proper individual is taking the class.  You have 30 seconds after the security question appears to supply a correct answer.  If you answer incorrectly or take too long to answer, the course will be "locked" for 24 Hours.  If the class does not "unlock" after a full 24 hours, call the ASI technical support center at 800-800-7121 for assistance.

Please note: This process will reset the timer for that module back to 0 (you will have to retake that course module).
